Ainsworth Hot Springs, BC is located on the shores of Kootenay Lake, in the Purcell Mountains of the West Kootenays of BC, near Nelson and Kaslo.

You can get to us on Highway 31, from the North through Revelstoke, via Nakusp and New Denver. From the South a 45 minute drive from Nelson, on Highway 3A, or a 1 hr. 15 minute drive from Creston (Highway 3A) to the Kootenay Lake Ferry. This scenic cruise of 35 minutes will carry you to Balfour and then a short 15 minute drive to Ainsworth Hot Springs.


Celebrated as the longest and most scenic free ferry crossing in the world, the 35 minute voyage from Balfour to Kootenay Bay is operated by the Ministry of Highways as a year round service. Two ferries provide continuous service from 6:30 am until 10:20 pm daily. The Osprey 2000 is an 80 car ferry brought into service August 2000.
